What’s On Your Want List?

Ah, the want list. A seemingly never-ending manifestation of all our emotional, material, and sometimes absurd desires. Mick Jagger sang about it (“You can’t always get what you want”), but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t dream or work hard and absolutely get what they want. Some keep a running list on their phone. Some leave 40 tabs open on their computer. And, some jot things down one by one in a journal or notebook to keep track of things they want to have and to hold. Does it perpetuate endless consumerism? Maybe. Is it unneccessary? Sometimes. Are want lists fun and harmless all the same? 100%.

Tell us, what’s topping your list as we lean into fall? Is it something designer? World peace? Or, perhaps, just some peace and quiet? No matter how large or how small, we want to know: what’s on your want list right now? Links are encouraged. Here are a few of Team Bleu’s.

20-something, Meghann Stephenson: “As summer is winding down, I’ve been focusing more on downsizing, selling clothes, jewelry, and shoes I haven’t been wearing, and further adopting the ‘less but better’ approach. I live in sweaters and jeans during the fall, so I usually rely on accessories to keep things interesting. Lately, I’ve been eying some chunky gold hoops from The Last Line. I’ve also been on the hunt for the perfect gold chain bracelet, I’m leaning towards vintage but Bagatiba makes a perfect option. I recently watched a Violet Grey video about Jillian Dempsey Gold Sculpting Bar and I’m completely sold on anything that promises depuffing and TMJ relief. Finally, I’d prefer to spend the remainder of summer lounging in this Deiji Studios set.”

30-something, Kelly McIntosh: “With my favorite season just around the corner, I’m always on the hunt for really versatile, transitional pieces. As a newly anti-black convert, it’s been interesting shopping for color for the fall. From the perfect boots (thanks for the square-toe obsession, Bottega), cozy sweaters (especially fuzzy) and jackets, here are a few of my favorite picks: Alexander Wang Lane Booties, this H&M sweater,  a chunky knit sweater, and this Zara double-faced jacket.”

40-something, James Kicinski-McCoy: “I have been heavily focused on my home, my health, and my surroundings as of late and so I don’t have a current hefty or extraordinarily interesting running list. I’m actually in the process of purging things that we don’t need in an effort to de-clutter and de-stress our space. However, there are a few things I have had my eyes on for quite some time that are always on my mind: I have been searching for an affordable set of Percival Lafer chairs for my living room for several years now (if any of you know of any or are selling, email me!). I’m hoping my patience pays off one of these days. Another thing that has been on my list forever, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger on is a Berkey Water Filter. Can I add a new color to my list? I’m so bored with my natural hair and think it’s time for a big chance, but the decision to go blonde, red, or dark is so hard to make. Lastly, and for good measure, it’s starting to feel like fall, so a cozy, new Acne Studios sweater is in order, and I’ve been lusting over this Curb Chain Bracelet since I laid eyes on it.”

20-something, Tiana Gidley: “The easier question is what isn’t on my want list! At the top would have to be a headband from Bluetiful. With Emme Parsons sandals, a gold herringbone chain, and a new fragrance from Dedcool following close behind. ”

20-something Emma Geary: “Now that fall is here, it’s time for my obscene candle shopping habits to come back to life. I love this line of candles and how playfully they’re designed. I’m also heading to Europe in October, and I’ve been on the hunt for a sleek, casual jacket. I love how simple this one is, and how it’s still fun in a coral pop of color. This boutique shop is my favorite place to gift myself a creative treat. I’m always looking to add art to my apartment, and this piece has been at the top of my list all summer long by local artist Ashley Mary.”

40-something, Sarah James: “Although I have yet to succumb to Botox or fillers at age 44, I have become mildly obsessed with obtaining as many home facial treatment devices as humanly possible. At the top of my list are the GloPro Micorneedling Regeneration Tool for my face and the NuBODY Skin Toning Device for my body. Do these things even work? I have no idea. Will I give both of them a good college try? Oh, hell yes. ”

20-something, Megan Podwysocki:  “I’ve been obsessed with everything Surratt Beauty lately, and the brand’s lid lacquers are on top of my list right now. The shade ‘Hadaka’ is this perfect neutral, warm bronze that is just pigmented enough to add some flattering definition and dimension to the eye, while being the most straightforward product to use, with or without a brush, no matter how late you might be. Microcurrent is all the rage right now and, thankfully for those who can’t make it to the derm and / or aesthetician every month, more and more at-home devices are coming out. I believe Melanie Simon can do no wrong, which is why I’m fully convinced that her Ziip Beauty device is worth every penny and will hopefully be mine sooner rather than later. The thing with devices is that you must be consistent to see results, but since consistency is my middle name (any Taureans out there?) I can confidently say that I’m ready to embark on that next skin-health level. For fashion, nothing screams back-to-school season like a good blazer, and I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect match for a while now. I love the structured, yet slightly oversized fit of this Zara little number. Finally, as an English major and a female linguistics nerd, there is no doubt that Amanda Montell’s first born is the book I’ve been waiting for my entire life.”

Being that it’s my birthday month, this list is running prettyyyy long right now. I’ve recently really gotten into spin (never thought I’d say those words) and would love a bra and leggings set from Girlfriend Collective to up my workout game. The Schultz Basia bootie has been on my wishlist for quite some time; they’d be the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe. Recently I discovered that YSL Beauty offers a lipstick customization option on their website, where you can choose a decorative lid and have the tube engraved for no extra cost! What would be a more perfect little bday gift to myself?

Yes, on the berkey as well! But the crown berkey is way too big I think. I got the big berkey, and I think it’s a good in between size.

I also got the nubody skin toner. I’ve been using it for 4 months and my husband tells me he can notice a difference. yaay!
